Overcoming geotechnical and environmental challenges to deliver stunning results
The challenge
HR Design was engaged to undertake full geotechnical and structural design of this residential dwelling located on a north-facing lakefront block. One challenge faced in this project was the close proximity of the pool to the existing lake revetment wall. The location, the slope of the allotment within the pool footprint and the unfavourable soil conditions, coupled with neighbouring constructions, made access and construction difficult.
The solution
In order to achieve the required finished level of the pool, we designed reinforced masonry support walls under the pool. These walls were designed to found below the zone of influence of the lake revetment wall using mass concrete bored piers. The pool was then formed on top of the support walls.
